1939 — Bill & Dave

HP is formed by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard.

1940 — First Charitable Contribution

HP recorded its first charitable donation of $5 to a local organization that would eventually become Silicon Valley United Way.

1957 — First Objectives

HP's first Corporate Objectives include "good citizenship—making contributions to the community [and] the environment in which we operate."

1966 — Recycling Program

HP employee Walt Moy initiates a punched-cards recycling program in Palo Alto for HP employees.

1991 — Planet Partners

HP initiates Planet Partners for HP LaserJet print cartridge return and recycling.

2003 — Supplier Code of Conduct

HP creates its Supplier Code of Conduct to ensure that the companies it does business with meet its standards for facility management; labor, health and safety practices; environmental policies and materials restrictions; and ethics.

2008 — HP Suppliers List

Comprehensive list of HP suppliers disclosed 1st electronics vendor to publish a list of our suppliers.

2013 — Complete Carbon Footprint

1. Based on PCs, displays, printers, supplies, and packaging from 2019 through 2023. Includes recycled plastic, metal, and fiber.

2. Based on HP's internal analysis as of 09/22/20. 92k recycled plastic bottles consumed, based on HP's projected shipment volumes of Pavilion clamshell PC products annually. 5% ocean-bound plastic material in product speaker enclosures. Calculation based on grams per product (using 12.7 grams per 16.9 ounce "single serve" bottled water container) multiplied by projected shipment volumes/ 12.7 grams.

3. Contains 50% recycled plastic from DVDs, 5% ocean-bound plastic in its speaker enclosure, and 90% recycled magnesium in its product enclosure.

4. Post-consumer recycled content refers to post-consumer recycled content as parts plus post-consumer recycled content as materials.
